This is the annual of the brilliant British D&AD. Check out their 2008 award winners on this website. The most prestigous design, art direction, branding, advertising, tv, radio, and video awards there are. In the world. Hands down.
SawDust is a neat site that showcases all sorts of graphic design and illustration work: print, identity/logo design, music, packaging and more. There is a lot of great work here.
Under Consideration is a really comprehensive website with several sections devoted to different design topics. I especially like "the design encyclopedia" (very useful for students) and the "brand new" sections.
I have found this design directory very useful for all of us.
The great thing about this website is, it does not only contain information about packaging design, graphic design ,branding etc ,but also website portfolio of the designers/design firm.
The Die Line is an excellent packaging blog, full of case studies and examples of packaging excellence, a good resource for Assignment 1.
